An integration (60 to 90 seconds inside a regular video) is the best default for sales: natural, long-lived and cheaper than a full video. A dedicated video usually costs more and pays off when your product takes time to explain. A pre-roll mention is short and cheaper. Shorts add reach and repetition. A common mix is an integration plus one or two Shorts.
The four formats compared
| Format | Typical length | Relative cost | Life of the video | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mid-roll integration | 60-90 seconds inside a regular video | Base price (1x) | Months: keeps getting views from search and recommendations | Sales, sign-ups, app installs |
| Pre-roll mention | 15-30 seconds at the very start | About 70-80% of the integration | Same as the host video | Brand reminders, simple offers, repetition |
| Dedicated video | The whole video | More than the integration (2-4x in finance) | Months to years if it answers a search | Complex products, launches, reviews and tutorials |
| Shorts | Up to 3 minutes, vertical | Usually below a long integration | Short peak in the feed | Reach, frequency, retargeting the same audience |

Integration: the default that sells
An integration is a segment the creator records inside a video they were making anyway. It sounds like them, it reaches their regular audience and it arrives at a moment of trust: the viewer chose to watch that creator.
Why it works for sales:
- It feels like a recommendation, not an ad. The creator explains why they use the product, in their words.
- It keeps working. The video stays on the channel. Agentio, a YouTube sponsorship platform, found that across 10,000+ integrations about 40% of views arrive 30 days or more after go-live (source, Mar 2026).
- It is easy to test. One integration per creator, a unique link and a code, and in a few weeks you know who sells.
The risk: a weak integration placed too late, or read like a script, gets skipped. That is why placement and the brief matter as much as the price. See our YouTube sponsorship brief template.
Pre-roll vs mid-roll
Two different things share the name pre-roll, and brands mix them up:
- YouTube pre-roll ad: an ad you buy in Google Ads that plays before a video. The creator is not involved and viewers can often skip it.
- Sponsorship pre-roll: a short mention the creator records at the very start of their video, usually 15 to 30 seconds. More people see it, because they have not dropped off yet, but there is little time to explain anything.
A mid-roll integration comes once the viewer is hooked, usually in the first third of the video. It is longer and fits better into the story. Creators Agency prices a pre-roll at roughly 70% to 80% of the mid-roll rate. For a simple offer (a discount, a free trial) a pre-roll can be enough. For a product that needs explaining, mid-roll wins.
Dedicated video: when it is worth it
A dedicated video is built around your product: title, thumbnail and full story. It usually costs more than an integration (Creators Agency puts it at 2-4x the mid-roll rate in finance), and creators accept fewer of them because they reshape their content.
It pays off when:
- The product needs a demo or a tutorial: software, apps, financial products, hardware.
- You are launching something and want one strong, searchable video about it.
- The video answers a real search, such as a review or a how-to. Then it keeps getting views for a long time.
It is a bad idea when the creator’s audience comes for entertainment and will not watch a full video about a product. Check how the creator’s past dedicated videos performed against their regular uploads before you pay for one.
Shorts: reach and repetition
YouTube Shorts have been able to run up to three minutes since October 2024, but people watch them in a fast vertical feed. They are great for frequency: the same viewer sees your brand again after the long integration. On their own they rarely explain enough to sell a product that needs thought.
A combination that works: one long integration plus one or two Shorts that cut the best moment, with the same code or link. Agree in the brief whether the creator can reuse parts of the long video as Shorts.
How to choose
| Your goal | Start with | Add |
|---|---|---|
| Sales or sign-ups | Mid-roll integration | Shorts with the same code |
| App installs | Mid-roll integration with a QR code on screen | Pinned comment with the link |
| Launch of a complex product | Dedicated video with one key creator | Integrations with several smaller creators |
| Awareness in a new market | Integrations across many creators | Pre-roll mentions for repetition |
| Test a new niche cheaply | One integration per creator | Scale the ones that sell |
Compare prices in CPM, always
A dedicated video for $8,000 and an integration for $2,000 cannot be compared until you turn each into a CPM: price ÷ expected views × 1,000. If the dedicated video gets fewer views than the creator’s average, its effective CPM can be far higher than the price suggests. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a YouTube integration and a dedicated video?
An integration is a sponsored segment, usually 60 to 90 seconds, inside a creator’s regular video. A dedicated video is built entirely around your product, from the title to the last minute.
How much more does a dedicated video cost?
There is no universal multiplier. The agency Creators Agency advises finance creators to price dedicated videos at 2 to 4 times their mid-roll integration rate. Ask each creator for both prices and compare them in CPM.
Is a pre-roll mention the same as a YouTube ad?
No. A YouTube pre-roll ad is bought through Google Ads and plays before the video. A sponsorship pre-roll is a short mention the creator records at the very start of the video. Creators Agency prices it at about 70% to 80% of the mid-roll rate.
Do YouTube Shorts work for sponsorships?
Yes, as a reach and repetition layer. Shorts have been able to run up to three minutes since October 2024, but they are watched in a fast feed, so they work best next to a long integration rather than instead of it.
Which format is best for sales?
For most brands, a mid-roll integration with a creator whose audience buys your category. It feels like a recommendation, it lives on the channel for months and it is priced lower than a dedicated video.
